How to Babyproof your house

By 6 months, a baby can roll over and start to sit unassisted. As babies get older, you want toys to encourage your baby to sit up and play, and even start crawling. Once babies become more active, they start moving all around the house which might be chaotic at times!

Over the next few months, your baby will tackle some pretty big milestones. Near the age of nine months, they might crawl or stand. As soon as your curious baby starts crawling, the first thing you need to do is start babyproofing everything that they can get their hands on. So, you can start preparing to keep your baby safe and healthy.

Baby-Friendly Home Tips

It’s common to get a little overwhelmed by all the different kinds of products and methods to babyproof your home. To help you get a head start on creating a safer space for your baby, we discuss some easy ways you can babyproof your home.

Use cover for electrical outlets

You need to keep electronics and electrical outlets out of reach from your baby. This means you’ll need to organize your wires, keep vases with water away from electrical applications, and most importantly, cover your outlets. To avoid electrocution, you should use outlet covers to create a barrier between your curious baby and an electric socket.

Cabinet and door locks are a must

Sharp edges and corners of furniture can be really dangerous for an active baby which loves to move around. Look for foam or soft covers that can be stuck down on any sharp edges and corners of furniture to keep your baby from bumping into them. Make sure to put any object with sharp edges out of your baby’s reach. This will prevent scary head injuries if your child hits the corner edge.

Avoiding half railing in your balcony is commendable

Most of the balconies of apartments have a low or half railing. If you have the same, there’s a risk for your babies. Because they tend to climb up on them which might result in an accident. To avoid this situation, install a high railing instead of them. High railing will reduce the risk of falling off them and cause fatal accidents.

Keep all of your broken objects fixed for the baby’s safety

Babies tend to grab any object near them. If any one of them is broken and has a sharp edge, they might hurt themselves. Fix the broken edges of furniture, vase, decor items, etc. Be extra careful about the objects made with glass. Keep them in a place out of your baby’s reach for their safety.

Baby proof your kitchen and its supplies

Kitchens are full of sharp objects, hot surfaces, and other dangers. Of all the appliances in your kitchen, ovens and stovetops have the most potential for serious and even fatal injuries. The most effective way to keep your child safe when the oven or stove is in use is never to leave it unattended. Even turning your back for a moment could have disastrous consequences. Your kitchen cabinets and drawers hold a lot of scary things! You store knives, graters, heavy pots, cleaning liquids, and more. They’re the last places kids should enter. The easiest way to keep your kitchen cabinets shut is to lock them.

We hope this article has helped you, baby, proofing your home. Once your curious baby starts crawling, they will want to explore everything that they get their hands on. To keep your baby away from the household hazards and most importantly for the peace of your mind, invest in safety locks and latches and babyproof your entire house! That is the wise thing to do!
